Nina Elizabeth Foster
PB: Blue fron Wolfs Rain
PB: Blue fron Wolfs Rain
Title: None
Rank: Commoner
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Age: 24
Class: Artisan
Appearance:
Generally, Nina is five feet, four inches tall and weighs around 135-140 pounds. Her body has a rather slender and firm frame. Her physique is sleek and lean, an agile build rather than one of crude strength. She’s flexible and swift, making up for such a disadvantage.
Her skin is the color of caramel, spotted with the occasional freckle (mostly upon her shoulders). Her hair is dark brunette, short and animated, flailing about in random directions, unruly, and untamable. Nina’s eyes are a crisp blue, haunted by a recent past, yet shinning with some fiery passion. The gleam in her eye matches the frozen, sly smile upon her lips; while without joy, her lips and her eyes convey a sense of mischief and secrecy.
Nina’s body is marked with an assortment of tattoos. On the inside of her left forearm are three black letters of intricate design descending from the crease of her elbow to her wrist: C, V, and M. On the upper portion of her right arm is a tribal symbol colored black. The Halfling who had designed it told her it was, according to their culture, a crest that would bring blessings and good fortune (not that Nina believed in good luck, but it never hurt to have some reassurance).
Her attire is chosen to facilitate her already flexible and agile nature. The materials are both light and form fitting, without frills, loose fabric, or any other type of added weight. Coloring varies day by day, although she does favor blacks and blues, whites on occasion, greens rarely, and purples, oranges, and reds almost never. Her shirts are usually halter-style, leaving her back open and her arms bare and giving her breathing room for more flexible maneuvering. She usually wears shorts rather than breeches, covering the rest of her legs in knee-high boots. Black in color and made of medium-quality leather, her boots are the heaviest piece of her ensemble, at least next to her blades. Nina is also usually seen wearing a long, dark brown coat with a high collar, especially in the winter. Encircling her waist is a leather belt equipped to hold both swords and daggers. On her right hip, the sheath holds her twin machetes. On her left hip, a much smaller sheath holds her hunting knife.
Weapons/Items:
Nina possesses a set of twin machetes about 20 inches in length from the hilt to the point. Designed by Nina herself and cast by her father, each blade is curved slightly upward and widened towards the point. The hilts are wrapped in leather, making for a firmer grip. Nina also carries with her a small 6-inch hunting knife used for a variety of fictional purposes.
Among other items on her person, Nina keeps a coin bag between her breasts, a precaution against the various thieves roaming the world. Strung across her back is a pouch filled with a small quantity of herbs known for their innate healing medicines. Nina’s small children constantly scrape their knees and elbows; her herbs are their only defense against infection.

Talents:
Because Nina grew up around the local blacksmith shop, weapons and armaments earned a special place in her heart. She developed a somewhat odd talent for weapon designs, earning her and her father, one of the few smithies in their region, something of a reputation in their small corner of Saravis. Designing swords, bows, axes, and other arms became a fondness of Nina’s as well as a specialty. Teamed with her father, rather skilled in his labor, they made weapons and armor even for the nobles.
Naturally, Nina would be inclined to use the weapons she helped create, developing a modest skill in swordsmanship. She soon began to apply her innate ambidextrous abilities into her arts, soon wielding more than one blade at a time. Her small stature obviously put her at a disadvantage in mastering the art, but she created a talent to compensate. Her agile and flexible body made her swift and nimble, graceful in a sense.
Of course, Nina has never been trained formally in swordsmanship or dual-weaponry. She merely applies a crude sense of understanding towards the art, making her a threat at the most. She’s rarely used a sword against another person and most certainly never against an enemy. There’s no doubt she’d do what she could to protect those she loves, but her endeavors would most likely be in vain.
Personality:
Nina’s personality is difficult to discern. Virtually manifesting itself in multiple layers, her disposition is both unparalleled and puzzling. Her demeanor is one complete with paradoxes and contradictions. Her belief system is no organized structure, but a malleable and inconsistent one, adjusting and reorganizing itself to fit within nearly any situation – whatever seems “right” at the time. In effect, her morals don’t always run parallel with those of society, and they seem to change as time moves forward. She acts on her impulses, neither planning nor analyzing her life at any point in time. She’s rather brash and irrational, spontaneous, reckless, argumentative, sarcastic, stubborn, and aggressive.
Nina is a rebel at heart and considers herself to be the exception to the rules. She feels neither dominated nor governed by them, rebelling against them simply because they exist. She has a difficult time obeying her superiors, preferring to flout authority rather than respect it. Furthermore she’d rather assume the leadership role herself than relinquishing the reign to others. She’ll fight for control, argue her points in excess, attempt to sway protestors into her favor, and assert her dominance whenever the occasion or need arises. She’s highly competitive, always enjoying a worthy challenge and doesn’t really take pleasure in backing down when she comes across a challenge she’s sure to lose.
Nina’s personality as well as her life is dominated by a quest for revenge and retribution. She’s a focused, ambitious, spiteful, headstrong woman marked by rage, hatred, and vengeance. She possesses a very proud and confident demeanor complimented by a zealous and rebellious nature. She’s full of energy and passion; but, marred by an undeserved fate, the joy she found once in life is almost nonexistent. She’s driven solely by a pursuit for justice, which in turn is merely a vain endeavor that once accomplished will not change the past.
While her persona is indeed dominated by such rash emotions, these passions are only the forefront of her overall character. Beneath the shell of sarcasm, rebellion, and irrationality (if it can, in fact, be breached) is compassion, benevolence, and sensitivity. Nina enjoys the company of other people and other races. She loves conversation, companionship, and sharing stories, laughter, suffering, and tears. She cherishes family and friendship and doesn’t cope well with death. Usually the first one to offer a helping hand to a stranger, she believes in the good intentions of most people. While she harbors suspicion of virtually everyone, especially with the situation she recently encountered, she’s easily convinced of their benevolence. She doesn’t detect lies very well (nor can she tell them). Consequently, she finds herself trusting more people than she should, and subsequently standing on the unfavorable end of the treachery spectrum.
Nina Foster is, overall, a respectable woman with a large heart full of passion. However, her aggressive, controlling, and sometimes overbearing nature is difficult to endure and even harder to be fond of. It’s not unusual for people to shy away from her company. Furthermore, her naïve and trusting nature is her downfall; it’s sure to hinder her pursuit for retribution and justice.
History:
Nina Foster was born to Patricia and Russell Colvin 24 years ago, preceded by her brothers Vance and Christopher Colvin five and three years earlier, respectfully. Her family was among the poorer population of Saravis, but they usually had enough to eat and clean cloths in good condition on their backs. Nina’s childhood was spent rebelling against her mother’s wishes, trailing after her two older brothers, and aided her father in his craft.
Russell was one of the few blacksmiths in their small corner of Saravis, southwest of the capital. He was well known for her iron and steel casting talents, often commissioned by peers and even the nobles to cast various weapons and armaments. Nina aided him by designing intriguing configurations for various weapons. Her designs had a certain aesthetical pleasure that appealed to the nobles. Coupled with the skills of her father, their armaments earned quite a reputation.
When she wasn’t designing weapons, she was using them. Influenced by Christopher, who passionately followed in his father footsteps and also received formal training in swordsmanship, Nina too decided she could learn. While her mother sternly refused her training, as such nonsense wasn’t lady-like, Nina still managed to find a sword and strap it to her hip as she paraded around town like a soldier. She was twelve when she and her father designed and crafted set of twin machetes to be Nina’s very own, a secret the two kept from Patricia.
She met Cameron around the same time. The boy, about two years older than she, came in to the shop one day with his father. Cameron was about to receive a sword of his own, and the Colvins were commissioned to design it. Nina and Cameron put their heads together in order to design a sword he would cherish. Somewhere, a friendship formed between them; little did Nina realize that the Colvins were not of the common class, but among a higher class of merchants. Their friendship was vainly discouraged by Nina’s parents, and outright forbidden by Cameron’s. Despite such opposition (or perhaps in spite of), Nina and Cameron found themselves together more often than not, causing random disturbances through town and committing harmless acts of vandalism among other misdemeanors. They even practiced their swordsmanship together. Cameron endeavored to teach Nina everything he learned in his formal training sessions.
When Christopher turned 18, he was allowed to join the army of Saravis, which he did without hesitation. While he yearned to join his father as a smithy, he felt the army called him at the present. Nina’s heart was torn watching her brother leave for the military. At the same time, Vance, the oldest of the Colvin children abandoned his home. He never seemed interested in the “family business,” and Nina wasn’t completely surprised that he did what he did. He and her father were constantly at odds, debating about fairness, ethics, tradition, and morals. Vance was never satisfied with his family’s life-style or caste, believing fate was cruel and the world condescending. His dark disposition actually frightened Nina, and while they were never close, she did feel his absence once he left, especially since she had lost Christopher as well.
Her father and her friend Cameron was left to fill the hole that her brothers had left. Life, however, continued without her two older siblings. She missed them daily, but realized that she must learn to live without them. She continued to focus on aiding her father in the craft and to find time to spend with Cameron who found himself trapped in the affairs of the upper class. He soon grew tired of the hypocrisy and drama that had become a staple of his daily living. Nina became his anchor to reality, his protection against the stupor of nobility, and his path towards a life in which he would find true happiness. Cameron Foster was stripped of his titles and birthrights the moment he asked Nina to become his bride. Their marriage, unacknowledged by the Fosters, was eventually blessed by the Colvins. Nina’s father and even her mother, came to accept Cameron as one of their own.
Their first child arrived promptly after their marriage, a son by the same of Vincent. Two years later, a daughter, Maria, made their family four. Vincent and Maria were the center of their lives. Nina and Cameron could only wish that their children’s lives would be as blessed as theirs. They only grew closer, still kids at heart, and very much in love. Eventually, the time of the Guardian Festival came around once again as it did every year. Neither Nina nor Cameron had actually attended the festival before, a fact they both endeavored to change. After a three day travel, the Fosters arrived at Eruim. Little did they know of the horror that would overtake the capital.
The festivities were suddenly interrupted by darkness and shadow. Unspeakable creatures ran wild through the celebrations, leaving slaughter in their wakes. Nina and Cameron, their children in tow, attempted to flee, but found themselves surrounded. They ran through ally-ways, seemingly stalked by invisible and nameless foes. A dead-end cut them off; behind them, a beast lay waiting. As a friend, a husband, and a father, Cameron stood his ground in front of his family. Sword in hand, he would take on the foes that hunted them. Vincent and Maria clung to Nina. On her knees, Nina watched as her husband was slain. Lifelessly, his body fell to the ground, drenched in crimson blood.
She could barely see the monster before her as her eyes filled with tears. Bitterly, they fell, and rage replaced her initial sorrow. She soon found herself backed against the ally wall, machetes in hand and vainly shielding her children with her body. Her world went black before she had the chance to scream.
